✏ To Blog or Not to Blog

I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember.
As a kid, I churned out stories about dogs, cats, and hippos (I’m still a huge hippo lover). I wrote songs about maniacal kids with knives for hands—long before Edward Scissorhands—and, after learning guitar, performed songs with my Girl Scout troop.
In college, my poetry professor (yes, I actually had one!) banned hearts and flowers, insisting on something darker. I happily obliged with gems like Reflections of an Insane Doctor and A Schizophrenic’s View of the Postal Service.
Since then, I’ve edited almost every company newsletter I could get my hands on, blogged for Zappos.com, and—most recently—finished my very first cozy mystery, Homeopaths and Homicide. (Proud author moment here.)
But the question remains:
💡 As an entrepreneur—or solopreneur—should you blog?
The answer: YES. Absolutely.
A blog is your chance to show the world who you are and where your mind wanders when you’re not busy running your business. It’s not just marketing—it’s connection.
Consider the BEES when blogging:
🐝 BE consistent – Post at least once a week. Sporadic posts (say, every 5 months) lose readers’ interest fast.
🐝 BE true to yourself – Write about what you’re passionate about. Ideally, it ties back to your brand, but personal touches—a childhood memory, an unfulfilled dream—make you relatable.
🐝 BE short and to the point – Avoid droning on. Use bullet points, stats, or quick takeaways to keep readers engaged.
🐝 BE engaging – Ask your readers questions. If they comment, respond! Engagement goes both ways.
And if you’re not a writer? No problem.
That’s where a virtual assistant comes in. They can brainstorm ideas, draft posts, and help you find your voice. AI tools can polish, but a human touch makes it personal—and keeps your readers coming back for more.
